The Concept

The nervous system has two subsystems, the sympathetic and the parasympathetic subsystems. These two subsystems may operate either independently of each other or interact cooperatively.

The sympathetic subsystem often results in a fight-flight response to a situation. A fight-flight situation causes an increase in respiration, heartbeat, blood pressure and even blood cholesterol. Fight-flight responses prepare an individual to either fight or run away from a dangerous situation. This dynamic state is associated with stress, activity, movement and achievement. CAT activates this healing process and supports achieving a balance between the activities of the brain’s two hemispheres. The parasympathetic subsystem, also known as the rest and digest subsystem, is concerned with psycho-physiological relaxation, recuperation, and generally proper functioning of the body’s internal organs. The two subsystems should be well-balanced and work in harmony for perfect health. CAT facilitates the body to regenerate this balance. Negative stress symptoms like insomnia, headache, anxiety, depression, lack of concentration, self-esteem, and confidence are  targeted by CAT. CAT activates this healing process and supports achieving a balance between the activities of the brain’s two hemispheres. The dominant half of the brain and the non-dominant half of the brain start to work in harmony again, allowing the right non-dominant side of the brain to come into its own and permitting a much more unrestrained expression.

The left-dominant side is responsible for analytical thoughts, mathematical and language skills, calculating, convergent thinking and linear mode of information processing.

The right, non-dominant side, is responsible for processing information and material from different areas, including the sensory organs, which leads to intuitive interpretation or guesswork. It is also responsible for imaginative work, music and art. This side of the brain developments love, compassion, and altruistic behaviour. 

We live in a complex world where we need to deal with vast amounts of stimuli. Whilst we can generally filter these stimuli reasonably well. Negative emotions, however, such as rage, anger and sadness are all natural by-products of processing the world around us. These negative emotions, when un-checked, can cause significant mental and physical problems.

Unlike many forms of meditation and yoga, CAT has no cultural religious or cosmological overtones, and requires no special clothing or unusual postures or practices. As the name implies, physical and mental relaxation, and the feelings of peace and transquillity, are generated from within oneself and are not dependent on any external values, philosophies or therapists.

CAT is for anyone who can sit for 15 minutes at a time.

Yes, individuals with profound psychological issues, depression, phobia. CAT does not replace psychotherapy, medical care or conventional therapies. If you are taking strong medications such as psychotropic drugs or tranquilizers, this can impede the effects of CAT.
